Looking Back on 50 Years of Service

In 2022, you helped us celebrate our 50th anniversary. Fifty amazing years delivering food and friendship in New Mexico. Thank you for generously donating or volunteering to connect with our hungry, isolated neighbors. It is because of compassionate people like you that Meals on Wheels of Albuquerque can reflect on 4.5 million meals delivered. Thank you!

What started in 1972 with 20 clients has grown to serve over 10,000 people over the past 50 years. Each one of these clients received nourishment for the body and friendship for the soul thanks to your support. People like Maurice, who reached out in February 1980 to share the joy that Meals on Wheels brought to his father’s life: “We are most grateful for the warm and friendly people that brought the delicious meals—it means so much to my father. One of my favorite memories will be his childlike curiosity to see ‘what did they bring today?’” Or Jeanne, a client who wrote in 1988: “Thank you Board Members & Volunteers, you certainly made my Christmas a lot happier. One volunteer even called me Christmas Day to see if I was alright & wish me a ‘Merry Christmas.’ So thanks to all of you for everything.”

Today, these notes of gratitude continue to come in from clients and family members across the state, showing the power of connections at the heart of our mission. It is truly remarkable to consider the impact on your neighbors—meal by meal, visit by visit—that your support has had over the past five decades.
