Garth’s Story

Shining Through Service – YOUR SUPPORT POWERS GARTH’S IMPACT

When Garth retired in 2005, he didn’t slow down—he found a new purpose. As a former professor of anthropology, he had spent his career studying human connection. Now, he’s living it.

For 16 years, Garth has been a dedicated volunteer driver, delivering nutrition, companionship, and peace of mind to clients across Albuquerque.

Like every Meals on Wheels New Mexico volunteer, Garth has built lasting friendships with many of the clients he visits. He’s seen firsthand how a knock on the door and a familiar face can brighten someone’s day.

And, of course, he knows that volunteering isn’t just beneficial for those receiving the meals—it’s deeply rewarding for those who deliver them. “It feels good to support others, to know I’m doing something meaningful.”

That’s why he’s also been a long-time donor. “We need to know and help each other,” he says. To Garth, Meals on Wheels New Mexico is more than a nonprofit—it’s a way to bring people together, and to strengthen the bonds of community and care.

Compassionate folks like Garth are the heart of Meals on Wheels New Mexico. But it’s your support that makes it all possible.
