Q: Am I eligible for Meals on Wheels New Mexico?

A: We have no age, health or income requirements, but we do ask that you receive at least two meals per week to maintain service. You must reside in Albuquerque, Rio Rancho or Corrales to receive hot meal delivery. Clients who live outside this area can receive frozen meal deliveries through the mail (shipping and handling costs will be applied for mailed meals).

 Q: How do I apply for Meals on Wheels New Mexico?

A: You, a family member or a professional caregiver may apply online (click here to apply online); by telephone by calling 505-808-MEAL, Monday – Friday between 9:00am – 2:00pm; or email clients@mow-nm.org. The application process takes approximately 15 minutes and requests information such as name, address, phone number, gross monthly income, health status, etc. All application information is kept confidential.

 Q: How soon can meal service begin?

A: Home delivery can usually start in within one week. Call between 9:00am – 2:00pm, Monday – Friday for set up. Meals on Wheels New Mexico delivers Monday – Friday, except on Federal holidays.

 Q: Can you accommodate medical conditions that require a special diet?

A: We have eight diet types: Regular, Heart Healthy, Diabetic, Renal/Dialysis, Vegetarian, Pre-Cut, Mechanical Soft, and Pureed. We can also accommodate a limited number of allergy or food preferences. Click here to visit our view the list of accommodations we can make.

 Q: What is the cost?

A: We work on a sliding scale fee based on gross monthly income and meal type (hot or frozen). We also offer chilled breakfast and dinner for a $3.60 per meal flat rate. Service begins with a non-refundable administration fee of $25, payable by debit card, credit card, electronic bank draft, or check. After initial payment, clients are placed on autopay and invoiced at the end of each month. Financial assistance may be available if meal costs presents a hardship and is dependent on grant availability.

Q: What if my nutritional requirements change?

A: We are happy to accommodate changes in diet that you need. Please call 505-808-MEAL to make any changes. Call before 11:00am, Monday – Friday for changes to be effective the next day service. Calls made after 11:00am will have a 24-hour delay.

 Q: Do I have to live alone to receive home delivered meal service?

A: No. You can live with family members or others.

 Q: Can the driver leave my meals if I have to go out?

A: No. Due to health and safety concerns, we cannot leave meals unattended. You can prearrange to have the meal delivered to a neighbor if you are going to be away by calling 505-808-MEAL before 11:00, Monday – Friday for next day service. Calls made after noon will have a 24-hour delay.

 Q: Can I suspend service for a couple of days without being cancelled from the program?

A: Yes. You can suspend/resume meal service for up to 30 days by calling 505-808-MEAL before 11:00am Monday – Friday for next day service. Calls made after 11:00am will have a 24-hour delay.

 Q: How short or long of a time can I use Meals on Wheels of Albuquerque?
