Volunteer Town Halls a Great Success!

The Meals on Wheels Deli was filled to capacity when over half of our active volunteers—120 in all—attended the first ever Volunteer Town Hall Meetings on February 24th and 25th. This multi-purpose event served to: reacquaint and refresh volunteers of existing procedures and practices; discuss new procedures and answer questions; and enable volunteers and staff to meet and mingle. Many shared their successes and challenges during and after the events and posed thoughtful questions about the organization moving forward. These meetings helped to deepen communications between our staff and our valuable volunteers.

Shauna Kessler, Executive Director, kicked off the event with a special video presentation entitled “Answer the Call.” This video illustrates how our clientele is building and the need for our services is growing. Following that heart-warming and at times heart-wrenching video, Shauna discussed how the program remains successful and where the organization plans to take this success in the future. Jane House, Program Director, began by introducing the administrative staff and then discussed volunteering with the organization and the protocols it requires.

Delicious sandwiches and cookies were available from the Meals on Wheels Deli, and at the end of the meetings, Shauna drew names from a special raffle drawing for gift cards to local eateries. “I was thrilled with the turnout and response to our invitation, and to meet everyone in person. I look forward to our continued dialogue in the future,” said Jane House, Program Director.
